Body of UK man recovered on Durban beach

The victim is a British citizen who regularly visits SA to train for triathlons.

POLICE divers from the Durban Search and Rescue team were called out this morning to Oasis Beach opposite Moses Mabhida Stadium where the body of a man was recovered. According to Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, SAPS provincial spokesman, the victim has been identified as Dave Lewiston, a British citizen.

According to Mbhele it is unclear what led to the drowning.

“The 79-year-old victim was swimming in the shore break after cycling on the promenade and he drowned. An inquest docket has been opened at the Durban Central SAPS. The victim is a British citizen who regularly visits SA to train for triathlons. His next of kin in Australia has been notified,” she said.
