18 stolen cell phones recovered in refrigerator

The phones were all fitted with tracking devices.

A TOTAL of 18 smart phones stolen from a cell phone store in Verulam were recovered on Thursday afternoon. According to Kyle van Reenen of Marshall Security, four suspects armed with handguns robbed the store before making off with a large amount of the merchandise. The robbery comes one day after a Vodacom shop was targeted in uMhlanga. Video footage captured after the robbery shows the suspects speed off in an Audi and Mercedes Benz.

It’s unclear whether the suspects are linked to the Zenith Drive robbery.

“The stolen items were fitted with a tracking device and the Marshall Security Special Operations Team were called to assist. Acting on information in the Ntuzuma area, discarded cellphone boxes were found in a shack in the Emachobeni area. After an extensive search we found a kit-bag hidden inside a refrigerator, containing 18 smart phones. The scene was secured and handed over to the SAPS,” he said. The suspects remain at large.
