Train carriages set on fire in Sea Cow Lake protest

Some of the protesters have taken to North Coast Road.

SEVERAL carriages of a Metrorail train have been set alight by angry protesters after the train they were travelling in broke down. Although it is unconfirmed, the passengers were promised other forms of transport which failed to appear which led to some of the passengers digging up parts of the track in order to damage the railway line.

According to ward 34 councillor, Bobby Maharajh, some of the protesters have begun stoning cars on Sea Cow Lake Road.

“I can’t understand why the people have resorted to this. The angry mob have begun stoning cars driving past the railway station. At this point the situation is very volatile and police have urged residents to stay away,” he said.

The passengers then set several carriages of the train on fire. A photo courtesy of Enforce Security shows the carriages engulfed in flames.

Some of the angry mob have also made their way down onto North Coast Road.
