Man injured after car rolls on Marion Avenue

Paramedics say the cause of the collision is unclear at this stage.

A 66-year-old man was injured after a t-bone collision at the intersection Marion Avenue and Newport Avenue. The accident comes less than a week after an accident at the same intersection. According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, the driver of the car has been transported to Umhlanga Hospital.

“One of the vehicles overturned in the collision. The driver from overturned vehicle, a 66-year-old man sustained moderate injuries. The driver of other vehicle escaped uninjured. At this stage the cause of the accident is unknown. The vehicles collided in t-bone fashion,” he said.

On Friday, uMhlanga Heinz de Boer confirmed the intersection, which has been the scene of a number of accidents in the past three years, will have traffic lights installed.

The eThekwini’s Traffic Authority (ETA) will install traffic lights on Newport Avenue at the intersection of Marion Avenue, Herrwood Drive at the intersection of Autumn Dive and Keynsham Drive at the intersection of Umhlanga Rocks Drive.
