Man arrested for attempted theft in uMhlanga

The suspect was arrested by members of a security company after a short foot chase on Twilight Drive.

A MAN was arrested after breaking into a vehicle on Twilight Drive, uMhlanga on Saturday afternoon. According to Durban North SAPS spokesman, Capt Raymond Deokaran, the man was apprehended after a short foot chase.

“Members of Enforce Security spotted the man looking into the vehicles and then saw him smash one of the vehicle windows. Thankfully he wasn’t able to steal anything and he was handed over to the police. He has already appeared in court and we have remanded him into custody. We are profiling him to see if he has been involved in other thefts out of motor vehicles in the area,” Deokaran said.

Brad Ross, control room manager for Enforce for Umhlanga Ridge Town Centre said the suspect was found in possession of a screwdriver.

“Our officers spotted him and reacted when they heard the glass shatter and the emergency lights of the vehicle blink. He tried to run away and after a short foot chase, he was apprehended by the pursuing officers,” he said.
