Cash-in-transit guard robbed outside Umgeni eatery

Two of the suspects were reportedly armed with AK47s.

A CASH-IN-TRANSIT guard was robbed of an unknown amount of money by armed men outside a fast food eatery on Umgeni Road. According to Capt Myen Lazarus of the Sydenham SAPS, the armed robbery took place outside the Steers parking lot.

“The guard was emptying a drop safe from the restaurant and walked outside when he was confronted by an armed men. His accomplices were reportedly armed with AK47s but that is unconfirmed at this stage. They stole an unknown amount of money and the suspects fled the scene in a cream Mercedes C-Class. No one was injured in the incident,” he said.

A case of armed robbery has been opened.
