Gang strikes at toy store in uMhlanga

This is the second shopping centre to be hit in the north Durban area in the past two days.

THREE men struck early this morning at a toy store in the Crescent Shopping Centre.

The suspects jumped the security guard on site, at around 5am on Thursday. They demanded his firearm and handcuffed him, said provincial police spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane.

They then proceeded to break into the premises, stealing four PlayStations, an undisclosed amount of cash and cellphones.

” Our task team is working around the clock to trace the suspects,” said Zwane.

This follows an armed robbery at the La Lucia Mall where five suspects held up a staff member at the MTN store last night.

“One of the suspects produced a firearm and forced her to the back of the store where they forced a safe open and removed an unknown number of cellphones,” added Zwane.

The suspects reportedly fled the scene in a silver Mercedes Benz. On Tuesday night a Glenashley family was held at gunpoint by armed men driving a silver Mercedez-Benz.
