Two vagrants nabbed in Durban North raid

The raid is part of an ongoing initiative to root out vagrants from the area.

TWO vagrants were arrested this morning after a raid by members of the Durban North SAPS. The raid focussed on the Broadway (Swapo Road) precinct. Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the station, said the men would be fingerprinted to see if they were linked to any crimes in the area.

“The raid is part of an ongoing initiative to root out vagrants from the area. We have received complaints from residents in the area and though I cannot say all vagrants are criminals, we believe there is a criminal element using vagrancy in the area as a cloak,” he said.

Last month, three residents conducted a clean-up operation on Broadway and Kensington.

In May this year, a similar operation uncovered several informal dwellings in the bushes along Armstrong Avenue.
