Doodles the cat gets a second chance at life

WHEN Bianca Hauser decided to launch her non-profit organisation, Animal Assistance Association, last year she set out to assist and support Durban’s animal rescue organisations – and ultimately the abused and neglected animals in their care.
And that is exactly what the Durban North resident has managed to do.
Through her most recent fundraiser, Fit4Paws, held at Jameson Park, the caring resident was able to pay R4 000 towards the vet bills of Doodles, a kitten that had been rescued in uMhlanga.
The three-month old kitten was found malnourished and dragging one if it’s hind legs.
Neeri Naidoo of the Phoenix Animal Care & Treatment said they suspect Doodles had been hit by a car.
A Good Samaritan rescued Doodles and handed her over to PACT. She was taken to The Ridge Vet & Pet Spa where she recovered. She was then placed into foster care and suddenly took a turn for the worse. PACT then rushed her to the Ashburne Veterinary Clinic.

Despite having a tough start at life Doodles was extremely affectionate and playful when Hauser and Northglen News recently paid her a visit.
“Doodles is a special needs kitten, as she sadly has no control of her bowels. She is, however, available for adoption. Her loving and playful nature would make a perfect addition to any home,” said Naidoo.
The 26-year-old Hauser is also determined to raise funds for another PACT rescue at the veterinary clinic – Leo.

“We believe Leo has lived most of his life on the streets. He was absolutely terrified of people. He would cower in fear whenever you touched him, but the patience and attention of the staff at Ashburne have really helped him blossom,” said Naidoo. Leo is now also up for adoption.
“This is not the first time Bianca has come to the aid of PACT, and her assistance has been invaluable. Without the help of people such as her we cannot continue with our much-needed rescues,” added Naidoo.

Hauser said she set out to assist organisations such as PACT as they often do not have the time or resources to organise or host fundraising events.
“I want to raise the funds, so that they can focus their time on the animals. It is really rewarding and heartwarming to play my part. At the end of the day the animals are helpless and we have the power to assist them,” she said.
Diane Best (Ashburne Vet’s practice manager) said, “As a veterinary practice and fellow animal lovers we appreciate the efforts of people like Bianca, as they take some of the pressure off the animal rescue organisations. We appeal to anyone to support the cause by making a small donation – every bit helps.”
