Airport operations resume after King Shaka bomb scare

The upper level of the airport was evacuated while police swept the building.

OPERATIONS resumed at King Shaka International Airport on Sunday evening following a bomb scare. The upper level of the airport, the departures sections was evacuated earlier after reports of a ‘suspicious bag.’ which was left unattended.

The airport were quick to allay passengers’ fears issuing a statement soon after.

“An unattended bag was found and immediately reported to SAPS. As per procedure the area was evacuated and cordoned off by SAPS and their Bomb Tech team. Once it was reported as safe operations resumed. We would like to thank the public for their patience. We are encouraging the public to please keep their belongings with them and report suspicious items to security and police,” the Airports Company of SA (ACSA) said.

The scare has not impacted on flights with the airport saying there have been no delays.

Durban comedian, Donovan Goliath also tweeted about the incident.
