1 dead, 9 injured in horror crash on M4

One of the nine injured in the crash on the M4 Ruth First Highway remains in a critical condition.

ONE person was killed while nine others were injured in a horrific accident on the M4 near the Virginia off-ramp. According to Kyle van Reenen of Crisis Medical, the accident occurred at about 11pm.

According to Van Reenen, reports from the scene suggest a Ford Fiesta collided into the rear of the Toyota at high speed causing it to collide with a Volkswagen Polo, before rolling several times and coming to a rest on its side. The Ford careened off the roadway and was found several meters away in dense bush adjacent to the road.

“When paramedis arrived on scene they spotted a Toyota Avanza which had overturned. A man believed to be in his 30s was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. Unfortunately there was nothing which could be done to assist the man and he was declared deceased on arrival.

“Another passenger injured in the accident, a woman in her late 20s suffered life threatening injuries and with the assistance of Advanced Life Support Paramedics from Rescue Care, was stabilized on scene before being taken to hospital. Eight others suffered injuries ranging from minor to moderate and were attended to and taken by various ambulances to nearby medical facilities for further care,” he said.
