Local agency on a mission to help flood victims
Today marks the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
TODAY marks the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. This year, according to the United Nations also marks the 30th anniversary of the Call to Action by Father Joseph Wresinski — which inspired the observance of October 17 as the World Day for Overcoming Extreme Poverty — and the recognition by the United Nations of the day as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

The recent Durban storms that wreaked havoc across the city exactly one week ago on 10 October with winds reaching up to 70km/h and flooding on major roads forced many, already struggling residents, into further dire circumstances. Numerous organisations have been formed to help people affected by the floods and in Durban North, the estate agency, Wakefields Real Estate Agents Durban North leaped into action.
The company is has made their office, situated at 24 Swapo (Broadway) a collection point for clothes, bedding, food and any other donations that can help flood victims.

According to Beth Stanton of the Durban North branch, the items will be distributed to The South African Red Cross Society which is part of the world’s largest humanitarian movement and supports people affected by natural disaster and conflict.

While the Wakefields Estate Agents Durban North team are appealing for clothes and food, the Angel Projects Flood Relief Fundraising campaign, launched recently is appealing for extra-long extension cords, double adapters, two-plate stoves and emergency rechargeable lights, amongst other items.
