Truck driver leaves the road to save antelope
The Steenbok will be rehabilitated at CROW and later on released.
A one-month-old Steenbok rescued by a truck driver is making a steady recovery at CROW (Centre for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife). Sikiandhar Shake, a truck driver from D.S Transport Services said he spotted the Steenbok anxiously sitting in the road in Vryheid after being separated from her mother. Shake said he decided it would be best to take the animal to CROW.

CROW’s spokesperson, Chandré de Bruyn said the small antelope is currently being bottle fed on full cream long life milk mixed with egg yolk. “She drinks approximately 4L of milk a week and will stay on the bottle for another four to five months.”

The Steenbok will be rehabilitated at CROW and later on released for a second chance at a free and sustainable life in the wild. The team plans to release her towards the end of November this year.
“The Steenbok doesn’t have any injuries and has happily adapted to her new surrogate mother and adopted siblings. Along with the other grey duikers and bush bucks, she is happily adapting to her new environment.”
