Vehicle crashes into balustrade on uMhlanga beach

Remarkably no one was injured in the accident in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A SUSPECTED runaway car has crashed into the balustrades on uMhlanga beach, overlooking the promenade. The vehicle rolled down the servitude between the Oyster Box Hotel and Beverly Hills Hotel and was stopped from crashing onto the promenade below by the metal railing.

According to uMhlanga’s Urban Improvement Precinct’s DeWet Geldenhuys, no one was injured in the incident.

“The vehicle was found at about 4.20am on Saturday morning. The driver was not found with the vehicle and at this stage we believe it may have been a runaway vehicle. Durban North SAPS and Metro Police are on scene. Thankfully the balustrade stopped the vehicle from crashing on to the promenade below and then onto the beach. An investigation is pending at this stage,” he explained.

The incident comes a week after a truck crashed into the outer wall of the Oyster Box Hotel and also damaged a vehicle in its path in the same servitude. In that incident, the driver of the truck said his brakes failed causing the truck to careen out of control going downhill.
