Love wins the day for Mount Edgecombe couple, 50 years on
"We have allowed each other to be who we truly are. We're also very supportive of each other,"said Barbara.
IT was love at first sight for Mount Edgecombe residents Barbara and Derek Brown, who celebrated their 50th anniversary recently.
The couple first laid eyes on each other while they were on holiday – separately, in the Drakensberg.
Asked what their secret to a successful marriage was, the couple jointly said: “It is letting your partner do what they want to do and support them.”
“We get along so well and we always support each other. The key to a successful marriage is to do things together as a couple and embrace each other’s differences,” added Derek

The couple’s relationship is based on friendship as they humorously spoke to each other throughout the interview with Nothglen News.

The couple said they can’t imagine their lives without each other.
Val, an avid bridge player, has represented KwaZulu-Natal several times. Together, the couple love playing golf.
Barbara said what has been the most cherishable moments of their marriage are their children and grandchildren’s birthdays.
Their love have three children and six grandchildren.
