Government applauds Team SA at #CWG18

GOVERNMENT has congratulated Team South Africa for flying the flag high at the Commonwealth Games. South Africa is currently fifth on the Commonwealth Games medals table with a total of 30 medals.
“Government is elated at our star athlete, Caster Semenya’s smashing win in which she broke the world record in the 1500m race and finished time of 4:00.71,” the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) said in a statement on Wednesday.
Semenya broke legendary athlete Zola Budd’s 34-year-old South African record set in 1984.
“We are proud of all our participants at the Commonwealth games. Their success is a result of hard work, determination and perseverance,” said GCIS Acting Director-General Phumla Williams.
Durban North resident, Henri Schoeman was also one of South Africa’s gold medal winners at the games.

Another athlete who made headlines at the Games was Highway’s Chad le Clos. He won gold in men’s 200m butterfly, the men’s 50m butterfly and the men’s 100m butterfly. Le Clos also won silver in men’s 100m freestyle
