Sunningdale’s Hylton bags bronze medals

Hylton Heggie broke Master 1 African records in the 400 metres freestyle and 50 metres breaststroke.

SUNNINGDALE’S Hylton Heggie was another standout at the Down Syndrome World Swimming Championships in Truro, Canada winning three bronze medals. The 27-year-old also broke two Master 1 African records at the champs.

Heggie broke records in the 400 metres freestyle and 50 metres breaststroke.

“I wanted to make my family proud and I was so happy to win medals and contribute to the team. My good friends, Shaun (O Neill) and Karl (Hebbelman) were also incredible. I hope to make the team for the next world champs and do just as well,” the former Sunfield Home School learner said.

His mom, Nicky Glazebrook, said though she did not travel with the team, she followed every second of the champs.

“Both Hylton’s girlfriend and myself live-streamed the event so we were able to follow all the action. We were cheering for him all the way. I think the entire team was exceptional,” she said.
