VIDEOS: 15 shacks ravaged at local settlement

A collection point has been set up at Northlands Bowling Club to help the victims of the fire that started earlier this morning.

THE eThekwini Fire department have managed to bring a fire that has been raging at the Malacca Road Informal Settlement under control. It is unclear at this stage how the fire started.

Some 15 shacks have been damaged in the fire and 18 people, including women and children have been left homeless.

Chairperson of the settlement committee, Sibonelo Mketwa said the fire was raging in the dip of the settlement adding that they had no clue how the fire started. He said nobody was injured in the blaze.

Local resident,  Arianne Hayes-Hill  has already arranged support for the victims of the fire. Anyone wishing to help can drop off their donations at Northlands Bowling Club.
