FROM being one of the most shy learners in high school, to being selected as a finalist in one of the country’s biggest competition. Park Hill resident Jodie Ganess (23) was recently named as one of young men vying for the Mr India South Africa.
Mr India South Africa – is a pageant aimed at motivating excellence in young men. It combines art, fashion and culture.
Ganess said he did not expect to chosen among the 12 finalists as he had never entered such a competition before.
“ I think what made it easier for me was that they were not looking for seasoned models. The competition is also not just about the runway or posing for pictures, it is also about personality and who you are as a person,” he said.

“When I told my friends I was entering the competition they thought I was joking. It was only when I announced among the finalists that they realised I was serious,” said Ganess.
The competition also encourages finalists to engage in charity work. Leading up to the finale which will be in December, each finalist is expected to adopt a charity.
Ganess said,”I have not identified a charity yet but it will probably be the SPCA because I love animals. I believe they should be cared for and protected because they form are part of our community.”
The competition will also have a cook-off section. Which should be a breeze for the local finalist.
“I love cooking so I am really looking forward to that part of the competition,” he said.
Describing himself he said he is a people’s person who loves making others happy.
“My personality traits often tend to lean on the charismatic side, because I am always trying to make the day of someone else’s better.”
He went on to say,”Mr India South Africa has always been something that I wanted to enter because it helps shape young men into being the best version of themselves. I want to use this platform to be a role model to others, to encourage others to always chase after your dreams, no matter what challenges you face, and never lose sight of your goal.”
