Take note of beaches protected by Sharks Board

The KZN Sharks Board has confirmed that some of the provinces beaches are still closed due to an industrial strike.

THE KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board Maritime Centre of Excellence (KZNSB) has confirmed that some of the provinces beaches are still closed due to an industrial strike. Some of the maritime centre’s staff downed tools following a deadlock in wage negotiations with the employer.

In a statement, KZNSB’s head of operations, Mike Anderson-Read said they have had to reduce the number of protected beaches.

“The KZN Sharks Board is currently experiencing industrial action with its labour force and as such has had to temporarily reduce the number of protected beaches the organisation is able to service with the limited resources available. Visitors to the beaches are requested to check with the lifeguards prior to entering the water.”

Bathing is currently open at only the following beaches:

  • North Coast: Willards Beach (Ballito Bay main beach),
  • Umhlanga Rocks main beach.
  • Durban: Ushaka to Bay of Plenty Beach inclusive
  • South Coast: St Michaels, Uvongo, Lucien, Margate, Ramsgate, Southbroom, San Lameer.

Anderson-Reade added that the board will continue to render services to the best of its ability during this period.
