‘Blood’y marvellous effort by David

Recently David Dillon gave his 200th donation to the SANBS at the Kensington Square blood donor clinic.

FOR more than 20 years, Durban North resident, David Dillon, has been a regular supporter of the South African National Blood Service.

He recently gave his 200th donation to the SANBS at the Kensington Square blood donor clinic.

His landmark donation comes on the back of news that KZN’s blood stock levels are dangerously low. It is estimated the province has only a day’s supply available.

“Too many of my friends and my parents’ friends have died of cancer and at one stage or another, they’ve needed blood transfusions. So I’ve known early on about giving blood on a regular basis,” the 53-year-old explained.

“My first ever donation would’ve been in my school years but it’s really in the last 10 years that I’ve been more regular at giving blood and platelets. And I’ll continue to donate for as long as I can. I believe in making a change and helping others and really twenty minutes once every two months is not excessive and that’s all that is needed,” he said.

Dillon also heaped praise on the staff at the donor centre for their professionalism and friendliness.

SANBS member, sister Jane Groom urged residents to follow in Dillon’s footsteps.
