Clamp-down on illegal use of disabled parking bays
The UIP has also stationed monitors to ensure that only permitted drivers use the parking bays.
THE uMhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) has stepped up measures to ensure that disabled drivers’ parking rights are taken seriously. The
Established by uMhlanga property owners established the UIP said they had noticed an increase in cases where disabled drivers find themselves with no place to park. This they said was due largely to able-bodied drivers using disabled parking bays. To halt the problem the UIP has brought in 1.8m cones to be placed each of the disabled bays on Chartwell Drive.
“More people were illegally using the bays reserved for disabled people. It’s really unfair when people who really need those bays are struggling to get parking because of a few inconsiderate drivers,” said Precinct Manager, Dewet Geldenhuys.
The UIP has also stationed monitors to ensure that only permitted drivers use the parking bays.
“Park Smart street monitors will check for paraplegic parking permit and move the cones when required. They will be available everyday until 12 midnight. The UIP requests that the public respect the rights of those who need to use the bays,” said Geldenhuys.
