ESKOM announced on Sunday that it did not “anticipate” a need to implement load shedding in the coming week due to a gradual improvement in the electricity system.

Sunday was the first day in nearly two weeks that South Africans did not have to endure any load shedding.

“The improvement in plant performance, together with replenished diesel and water reserves over the last few days, as well as the increase of imports from Mozambique’s Cahora Bassa to 850MW has positively shifted system performance,” the power utility announced in a statement.

However, Eskom warned that the risk of load shedding has not been eliminated as the system remains vulnerable. It urged the public to use electricity sparingly.

“Load shedding will only be implemented when absolutely necessary.”
