DEMOCRATIC Alliance member Heinz de Boer has announced he will step down as ward 35 councillor as of Tuesday (14 May) after serving in the position for 10 years. De Boer will remain with the party and will now serve as a member of the KZN Provincial Legislature.
“The portfolio and constituency I will work in at Provincial level remains to be decided. Working with the north Durban community has certainly been one of the best experiences of my life. I have met some incredible people, and have been moved and touched the kindness and community spirit of so many citizens. Importantly, it’s now up to you as a community to elect a new ward councillor during a by-election,” he said.
According to De Boer, the by-elections date will be announced by the IEC and will be held in the next two to three months.
