Register to vote this weekend for Ward 35 by-election

The areas of Ward 35 are upper and lower uMhlanga, Gateway, Glenashley, La Lucia, Sommerset Park, Prestondale and a portion of Virginia.

RESIDENTS of ward 35 are encouraged to vote in the upcoming by-election on Wednesday, 7 August to elect a new ward councillor as outgoing councillor, Heinz De Boer has left to take up a position in the provincial legislature. Registration takes place this weekend on Saturday, 22 and Sunday, 23 June from 8am until 5pm.

De Boer said residents need to be registered in the ward where they are staying to vote in the by-election.

“It is not like a national election where you can vote anywhere. The areas of ward 35 are upper and lower uMhlanga, Gateway, Glenashley, La Lucia, Sommerset Park, Prestondale and a portion of Virginia. Anyone who lives in those areas can vote and if they are uncertain if they are in that ward, they can contact me on Whatsapp and I will check and let them know. For people to check their voting status, they can send their ID number to 32810, which is the IEC line. Anyone who is not registered or anyone who has moved into the area and needs to register or people who may have been incorrectly registered can go to their voting station and re-register this weekend. The voting stations will be open from 8am until 5pm,” he said.
