Supermarket ablaze in eMdloti

Fire fighters are currently on the scene fighting the blaze.

SMOKE billows into the air above the Kwikspar supermarket on Main Road in eMdloti after the building caught fire at approximately 8am today.

Divisional Commander for the Umhlanga Fire Department, Jay Kanniappen said fire fighters are on the scene.

“We are busy fighting the fire now. It’s the Kwikspar on Main Road as you come into eMdloti,” he said.

Spokesperson for  Crisis Medical Paramedics, Kyle Van Reenen said one person was being treated on the scene.

“One staff member has been treated for minor smoke inhalation injuries, however, there are no serious injuries reported. The extent of the damage to the building is still to be confirmed. Crisis Medical paramedics have set up a staging and triage area,” he said.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage, although authorities are investigating.
