SOUTH Africa and the world is in mourning following the death of legendary South African singer, Johnny Clegg.
It was confirmed the 66-year-old died on Tuesday afternoon.
He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2015.
In 2012, Clegg received the Order of Ikhamanga as part of the National Orders ceremony. This award is the highest honour a citizen can receive in South Africa.
His song “Scatterlings of Africa” was featured on the soundtrack to the 1988 Oscar-winning film Rain Man.
Here’s how Twitter users expressed their sadness at the news of Clegg’s passing.
A towering giant has fallen with the passing of legendary Singer-songwriter & Anthropologist Johnny Clegg. Our hearts are sore & as he famously sang in Asimbonanga "oh the sea is cold & the sky is grey" as we contend with the loss of a torchbearer of our struggle for freedom. pic.twitter.com/35RGuWGn02
