WATCH: Johnny Clegg’s moving doctoral acceptance speech at UKZN

In 2013, UKZN awarded Clegg its highest honour, Doctor of Music (honoris causa).

THE University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) has paid tribute to South African musical legend, Johnny Clegg who died on Tuesday evening.

Professor Nana Poku, vice-chancellor at UZKN said the university extended its heartfelt condolences to Clegg’s family, friends and the multitude of fans across the world.

In recognition of Clegg’s outstanding contribution to the music industry, the university awarded him its highest honour, Doctor of Music (honoris causa) in April 2013. In his acceptance speech he regaled the audience with the stories of his life’s journey through music.

Speaking during the UKZN graduation ceremony, Johnny Clegg said:

Clegg’s brand of cross-over music has entertained generations of South Africans across the racial and cultural divide.
