New leadership for Virginia Prep

Darren de Gouveia-Smith served as principal for Trinityhouse Palm Lakes for five years on the north coast before his appointment at Virginia Prep.

VIRGINIA Preparatory School’s newly appointed principal, Darren de Gouveia-Smith has described his appointment as a ‘great honour’.

De Gouveia-Smith, who has only been in his post for a little over a week has been involved the field of education for almost 20 years.

The 44-year-old served as principal for Trinityhouse Palm Lakes for five years on the north coast before his appointment at Virginia Prep.

“I am incredibly honoured to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich tradition of education. I’m extremely passionate about sport, particularly youth development, having played, coached and managed personally at school, club and provincial level. I am looking forward to seeing the school move to the next level when it comes to sport,” he enthused.

De Gouviea-Smith, who has an honour’s degree with a specialisation in education management, said he has felt the love from the community since day one.

“I’ve been made so welcome at the school by the staff, learners and parents. I’ve received tremendous support from everyone in my first week which has been heartwarming. I work with a dedicated band of educators and I think we’ll make a great team. My aim is to contribute towards making Virginia Prep an environment that is a school filled with fun, learning, success and fulfillment,” he said.
