WATCH: Matrics congratulated at Crawford La Lucia
Principal, Carolyn Warwick was proud to announce there was a 100 per cent pass rate at the school.
THE class of 2019 bustled around the notice board to check their matric results at Crawford School-La Lucia College on Tuesday morning.
Principal, Carolyn Warwick was proud to announce there was a 100 per cent pass rate at the school.
“These students have done exceptionally well, they are the best that we have had in a long time. They have just been a fantastic group of learners to teach. It’s been a real privilege to work with. They have worked well, they have challenged each other, they’ve been a bit eccentric at times, but in the end, we always had a feeling they would be successful. I look forward to seeing where they go in the big wide world,” she said.
Some 24 learners out of 125 achieved six or more distinctions, and several students took more than the seven subjects required for a matric pass, said Warwick.
“It’s almost a standard requirement that the learners take eight subjects, but not all of them do. Our teachers will accommodate learners who do nine or 10 subjects and a lot of those students do the work on their own, a testimony to the type of people that they are. They are prepared to go the extra mile,” she added.

The school’s top learner, Kayrav Naidoo achieved 100 per cent for maths and distinctions for all nine subjects that he took. He achieved 97 per cent for accounting, 98 for advanced programme maths and 96 for French.
“Studying is nothing new, matric is very similar except you get less sleep,” he said.
He plans to study medicine in Cape Town this year and advises this year’s matrics to maintain a balanced lifestyle.
“Train, eat healthily, because when you do that you perform at your best,” he said.

Another learner, Bella Gosnell took 11 subjects and received distinctions for all except physical science.
“I’m indecisive and I have such a broad range of interest, that I couldn’t choose, I didn’t want to stop learning any subjects. The work was huge, but I did a study group with friends and we pooled our resources and shared our notes,” she said.
Gosnell plans to take a gap year in France where she hopes to learn French as part of a broader goal to learn eight languages.
