Coronavirus infections rise to 116 in South Africa

The recent cases were recorded in Gauteng, the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.

The number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 116, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announced on Wednesday morning.

The number rose by 31 from Tuesday’s figure of 85.

The recent cases were recorded in Gauteng, the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.

“We have a further increase of six local transmission cases. As part of tracking and tracing, we have collated background information on how these patients were infected. We will provide information to the public, so as to give a sense of how these local transmissions occur,” health minister Mkhize said.

In KwaZulu-Natal the three additional cases that have been reported are as follows.

A 59-year-old man who travelled to Austria and Italy
A 54-year-old man who travelled to Italy
A 55-year-old man who travelled to Italy.
