SAPS receives donation of hygiene products

The donation included bleach, dish washing liquid and soap bars.

THE South African Police Service is among the essential services that continue to serve the public during the Covid-19 lockdown. With officers facing a higher risk of infection as they continue to enforce the law, Terrilyn Goldman decided to share some hygiene tips and deliver various hygiene products to the Durban North SAPS on Friday, 10 April. She demonstrated how to disinfect surfaces in the police station and how to ensure effective personal hygiene.

Spokesperson for the Durban North SAPS, Captain Raymond Deokaran said: “The station is in need of the products due to the type of duties being performed It is at times like these that we truly see the generosity of the public and businesses in our policing precinct.”

The donation included bleach, dish washing liquid and soap bars.

“When SAPS are out on patrol, they don’t have access to soap and water, so we have suggested they mix the dish washing liquid with water in a squeeze bottle. They can use the solution to wash their hands after road blocks or dealing with the public,” said Goldman.

The soap and water mixture offers an alternate to hand sanitiser.

“Constant use of hand sanitiser can start to irritate the skin,” said Goldman.

SPAR group house brand manager, Bhavna Sanker said they donated various products to Goldman for use at the Margaret Hirsch training courses as well as the SAPS training courses:

“Our consumers safety and health are paramount. It is essential that we continue to educate and train South Africans on good hygiene practices. We urge all to stay safe and at home during this period,” said Sanker.
