THREE armed men robbed two bank customers at the Crescent Shopping Centre on Wednesday, December 15.
The suspects, who fled the scene in a silver Mercedes Benz, allegedly stole R200 000 in cash from the two customers inside the First National Bank (FNB) at the mall.
Reaction Unit South Africa’s spokesperson (RUSA), Prem Balram said the incident occurred just after 13:00.

“A member of RUSA was flagged down by a passerby reporting a robbery. The reaction officer proceeded to the mall and was informed that armed suspects entered the bank and robbed at least two customers, who were at the bank to make deposits.
“One of the customers was deprived of R150 000, which was the proceeds from the sale of his vehicle and a cellphone. A second person was robbed of R50 000. No injuries were reported in the robbery,” Balram said.
The CEO of FNB’s Points of Presence, Lee-Anne van Zyl, confirmed the incident occurred at the FNB branch at the local mall.

“There were no injuries sustained during the incident, and the police were immediately called to the scene. The bank strongly condemns this senseless act of criminality and will continue to support the police investigation.
“While incidents of this nature are not common, we regularly review our multi-layered security measures at all our branches. The branch is temporarily closed, and our customers are encouraged to use the FNB App, online and cellphone banking, or the nearest branch,” van Zyl said.
