Parkhill resident irate with unkept lane
She also said the trees are growing into the electricity lines which could cause a problem if it's not attended to soon.
A RESIDENT living in Citrus Lane, Parkhill for the past 25 years is frustrated the garbage in the area has not been collected for more than a week, among other issues.
Speaking to Northglen News last week, Lucille Mathurine, said the non-functioning street lights, overgrown trees and unmaintained thoroughfares are also concerns to her and her neighbours.

“Due to the garbage not being collected for several days now, there’s an increase of flies. It’s unhygienic,” she said.
She added the lane was extremely narrow and the trees needed trimming urgently.
“Two cars can’t pass through at the same time and with the trees growing into the roadway, there’s very little wiggle room,” said Mathurine.
“The trees also bear a fruit which, when they fall to the ground in rainy weather, becomes slimy and causes our vehicles to slide. This is a danger to me and other residents living on the lane,” she added.
Close to her property are two thoroughfares which were frequently used in the past.
Although the thoroughfare isn’t being used as much as it was used to in the past, it still needs to be maintained,” she said.
“The trees, plants and weeds are now out of control and it is unsightly,” added Mathurine.
Ward 36 councillor, Shontel de Boer said she had contacted the City about the garbage not being collected and was told that there was no truck available to collect the refuse.
“The smaller truck which can fit into the lane has broken down. The bigger one is too large to fit into Citrus Lane,” she said.
Last week de Boer arranged a meeting with Parks and Recreation Department to discuss the trimming of the trees and the thoroughfares.
“They were a no show so we have rescheduled for next week,” she added.
The eThekwini Municipality was not available for comment by the time of going to print.
