Helicopter crashes at Virginia Airport, three injured

One of the occupants sustained spinal injuries.

THREE people were injured when a helicopter crashed at Virginia Airport in Durban North this morning.

Shawn Herbst, spokesperson for Netcare 911 said the incident occurred at about 09.30.  

“Three people were injured, the pilot and two occupants. One of the occupants sustained spinal injuries,” said Herbst.  

He said as the helicopter was headed for the runway, the engine had failed.  

“The pilot did an emergency landing, however the helicopter flipped over and broke into several pieces,” he said.

 The Civil Aviation Authority will investigate further.
