The knife makers are always excited to share their craft with anyone.
KNIFE makers and enthusiasts from all over the country will feature at the Durban Easter Knife Show on April 15 and 16 at Aha Gateway in uMhlanga.
Beatrice Bosch, the organiser of the show for the last 20 years took over from her father Anton, a knife maker, after he emigrated.
“Even though I am not a knife maker, I understand the skill and time that goes into a handcrafted knife. I watched my father make knives make knives for several decades,” she said.

This year 26 knife makers from all over the country and also from the UK and Portugal will be exhibiting. In addition there will be seven suppliers of knife making materials, tools and equipment.
“South African knife makers are known throughout the world for their artistry and incredibly high standard of fit and finish. Each knife is unique and hand made, in fact, the show does not allow factory knives,” said Bosch.
She said knife enthusiasts will see and be able to purchase, daggers, swords, biltong knives, kitchen knives, hunting knives and other specialty knives.
“While all of the knives are made to work, and last a lifetime, some are collector’s items and pieces of art. You will see basic utilitarian knives, while others incorporate fine jewels and semi-precious stones. Many of these will become heirlooms and be passed from father to son,” added Bosch.
What they all have in common, is that they start as raw steel, wood and other metals and through the skill of these craftsmen end as ‘men’s jewellery’.
The makers are always excited to share their craft with anyone.
The show runs from 10:00 to 18:00 on Friday (15th) and, 09:00 till 16:00 on Saturday (16th).
Entry tickets at the door are R60 for those over 12 years of age.
