Briardene informal settlement receives food hampers

A total of 200 food hampers were handed out.

TEAM work certainly did make the dream work on Wednesday as 200 food hampers were handed out to the Briardene Informal Settlement.

Initiated by the Gift Of The Givers, this was a joint effort with Ward 36 Committee and Ward 36 Councillor Shontel de Boer.

Since the devastating floods the Durban North community and the ward committee have teamed with many relief and charity organisations.

Speaking to the Northglen News, Ward 36 member Helen Koch said this donation was part of the work the committee had been doing to assist since the flood.

“We have received support from The Domino Foundation, Caring Sisters Network, the Durban North Methodist Church and The Robin Hood Foundation – all who donated to the households who were affected by the April flood,” she said.

“This is only a part of what the area committee has been doing since the Durban floods. We sent out a message on the Ward 36 WhatsApp group a few weeks ago, asking the community to assist with donations of food, household goods and clothes and the response was overwhelming,” said Koch.

Since then, the committee has been on the ground ensuring that the donated goods go to where they are needed most.

“At a time like this, it is important that we all band together and show our support for humanity,” she said.
