Several motorists fined in uMhlanga roadblock
The roadblock is an ongoing operation between Metro Police and Durban North SAPS.
A TOTAL of 30 vehicles were stopped in a roadblock on Umhlanga Ridge Boulevard on Friday last week by members of the Durban North SAPS and Metro Police.
Durban North police spokesperson, Captain Raymond Deokaran, said a total of seven motorists were fined for various traffic violations.
“These operations are held weekly and in different areas of our police precinct. We target different routes in and out of the Durban North and uMhlanga areas. We also identified Umhlanga Ridge Boulevard as an entry point into the uMhlanga Ridge area.

“Seven motorists were issued fines for various transgressions, including driving without a licence, driving an unlicensed vehicle and in some cases, driving without number plates fitted. These operations, however, are not only about traffic violations but also about searching for any illegal firearms, drugs and other criminal activities. In recent years, we have seen a spike in crime in various business districts,” he said.
Deokaran added these operations were vital to curbing crime and said SAPS vehicles were patrolling key entry and exit points in the area on a daily basis.
