The incident occurred at approximately 10:15 near the corner of Gumtree Road and Smithfield Road. Armed response officers noticed the man behaving suspiciously while carrying several items.

Upon questioning, he was unable to give a valid explanation for how he acquired them.

“Due to the suspicious nature of the encounter and the man’s failure to account for the goods, officers detained him on the spot. Greenwood Park SAPS were notified and arrived shortly after. The suspect was taken to the police station for further investigation and processing,” said Marshall Security spokesperson, Tyron Powell.

At this stage, it remains unclear where the items were allegedly stolen from. Residents who may have been victims of theft or house break-ins are urged to contact the SAPS.
