Dreams take shape with support for north Durban organisation

To generate funds and rally support for more initiatives like Nzimakwe's, Hosanna Women will host a 5km Family Fun Run on Women's Day, August 9, at the Westville Country Club.

AFTER 13 years of working on the frontline of early childhood development, Zanele Nzimakwe is on the brink of realising her lifelong dream of opening her own pre-school in the heart of Amaoti.

Nzimakwe has spent more than a decade as a field worker with The Domino Foundation’s Early Childhood Development (ECD) programme, guiding and mentoring women operating township crèches towards becoming fully registered ECD centres. Now, she is preparing to open her own centre, which she has named Fountain of Life.

Her journey has been supported by the strong partnerships forged through The Domino Foundation, particularly with Hosanna Women, a women-owned non-profit company focused on empowering black women in the education sector.

The vision for Fountain of Life began to take tangible form when Nzimakwe shared her dream with Michele Gorrie, a director of Hosanna Women. While Nzimakwe brought a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience, she needed land and infrastructure to build her own facility.

Through Hosanna Women’s support, land for the centre has been secured, and architectural plans are in place. The centre is expected to open in early 2026.

“Zanele is exactly the sort of passionate and committed woman we love to work with,” said Gorrie.

“Hosanna Women has invested in many successful businesses that contribute to female black ownership. Our mission is to equip and empower women like Zanele to own and operate pre-schools that meet national education standards.”

To raise funds and support for more initiatives like Nzimakwe’s, Hosanna Women will host a 5km Family Fun Run on Women’s Day, August 9, at the Westville Country Club.

The event will feature live entertainment and family-friendly activities. Tickets cost R100 and are available through Quicket. For more information, contact cheron@thekwinimotorgroup.co.za.
