Look out for Umhlanga Tourism’s new blue ride

Make sure you keep an eye out for Umhlanga Tourism's new, blue ride.

IF you spot a little blue three-wheeler with Umhlanga Tourism branding buzzing around town, give it a friendly hoot or flash of your lights — it’s the organisation’s brand-new TucTuc.

The quirky vehicle was recently purchased to help staff better service members and clients across the wide Umhlanga precinct. In the past, vice-chairperson Sabelo Didi would often have to walk to attend meetings or hand-deliver documents in the area.

Former chairperson Jeannie Sarno said the TucTuc has been on her wish list for some time.

“As an organisation, we work non-stop to better publicise the Umhlanga Precinct, which stretches from the uMngeni River to the Tongaat River. It’s a huge area to cover, but we try our best, even after hours, as we all have our own full-time jobs too,” she explained.

“Only Sabelo and Nonhlanhla [Mtshali] are employed full-time with the tourism office; the rest of the committee are volunteers. This little vehicle just made sense. It allows us to deliver documents to our members, attend meetings, and at the same time raise awareness that there is a tourism office in Umhlanga.”

Didi said he was excited about the organisation’s new wheels and is eager to hop on and deliver the best service to members.

“The TucTuc will certainly make my job easier. What I love about it is that it stands out and adds to the tourism vibe,” he said.

He added that it was important to note that the vehicle will only be used for work purposes and is not available for use to the public.

Sarno added that the timing was perfect, as the organisation has just had its AGM, and a handover to the new chairperson, Naomi Crous, is underway.
