Green thumbs uplift nutrition at Mount Moriah Educare Centre

Local businesses and the community are invited to be a part of this project which is aimed at providing long-term, sustainable nutrition for the children at the centre.

THE Mount Moriah Educare Centre, home to more than 200 children aged five to seven, has received a vital boost to its soup kitchen through a collaborative community initiative aimed at improving child nutrition and promoting sustainable food practices.

Leading the charge is appliance and home store giant Hirsch’s, a founding sponsor of the project, which recently planted avocado and mango trees around the school’s vegetable garden to enhance the kitchen’s fresh produce supply. This initiative is part of a larger effort to provide long-term, sustainable nutrition for the children at the centre.

In a further show of support, South African seed company Stark Ayres, represented by regional sales manager Jerome Zondagh, has pledged donations of seeds and fertiliser.

“We will also lead educational talks for both students and staff, teaching them when, where, and how to plant and care for vegetables; skills aimed at ensuring the garden’s continued success,” said Zondagh.

Additional sponsorship and support have come from the Fourways Group and KL Nursery, both of whom have committed to backing the ongoing development of the garden.

Hirsch’s has extended an open invitation to local businesses and community members to get involved in the project, highlighting it as an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in children’s lives.
