Local pharmacy champions community health
Beyond medication reviews, the pharmacy also compounds tailor-made creams and mixtures based on doctors' prescriptions, a service many may not know is available. Naudé says the profession has shifted in recent years towards a more holistic approach.
AS the world marked World Pharmacists Day 2025 (25 September) under the theme “Think Health, Think Pharmacist,” local pharmacists are highlighting their vital role in strengthening community healthcare.
Cléa Naudé, Responsible Pharmacist at Broadway Pharmacy, says the message of this year’s theme resonates deeply with her profession.

“Pharmacists are here to strengthen the healthcare of the community. We have many roles in the healthcare profession. The pharmacists at Broadway want to help the community maintain and improve their health,” she said.
Naudé emphasises that pharmacists do far more than dispense medicines. At Broadway Pharmacy, pharmacists regularly provide free advice to ensure patients understand their medications and make informed choices about health products.
The pharmacy also hosts free testing days for glucose and iron, while continuous staff training ensures customers’ queries are answered with confidence and care.
“The phrase ‘Know Your Medicine, Know Your Pharmacist’ sums it up really well,” said Naudé.
“Pharmacists are able to review medication regimes for patients. We compound creams and mixtures on a script by script basis where your doctor has prescribed a formulation especially for you. Remember to bring along any vitamins and supplements as those also form an important part of your regimen.”
“We have become more focused on holistic health. With the rise of healthier lifestyles, more people want advice about preventing disease. Complementary medicines are on the rise, and pharmacists are able to marry conventional treatments and natural alternatives,” she added.
She encourages residents to build stronger connections with their local pharmacists.
“The pharmacists at Broadway are here for the community. We are always happy to share advice and help you.”
Looking ahead, Naudé hopes the public will increasingly see pharmacists as their first point of call for healthcare advice.
“We hope to see more people coming to their pharmacists for advice, and be your first stop to make your life easier. We want to make a difference in people’s lives. If we make a small difference even in just one person’s life, then our work is worth it.”
