Durban North organisation calls on business to help keep teaching going
Learners may be without a maths teacher if a Good Samaritan doesn't come to the rescue soon.
AFTER the sudden departure of the maths teacher for Grades 9 and 10 at Amaoti 3 Secondary School, learners were left without instruction for months.
A replacement for the educator was not met by the departments involved but law firm Cox Yeats Attorneys, who had already been funding a Literacy Champion at the school, funded a temporary solution.

Graduate teacher Awonke Nondabula, who has been teaching 243 learners, will continue until the end of October.
Learners and staff say his presence has made a noticeable difference.
Domino Foundation’s Education Co-ordinator, Nicky Walton, said Section 29 of the Constitution promises every child a right to education.
“But these children were left without a maths teacher for months.”
Walton says both the maths and literacy roles have had clear impact, but their future remains uncertain without further sponsorship.
“We’re appealing to other businesses to help sustain these critical teaching roles,” she said.
Nondabula described his experience at the school as meaningful.
“I’ve bonded with my students. This is a key stage in their road to matric.”
