Durban North NPO welcomes community service participation

The learner encouraged other teens to consider working together with The Domino Foundation in one of its programmes.

Grade 9 St Henry’s Marist College learner Makaylen Cameron completed her community service hours with The Domino Foundation’s South Nutrition kitchen in Amanzimtoti, where she volunteered over two days.

According to South Nutrition manager Cheryl Dann, Cameron assisted with preparing peanut butter sandwiches for early childhood development centres and packing food relief hampers for families and individuals in need.

St Henry’s Marist College principal Dr Stephen Leech said Cameron’s service reflected the school’s emphasis on community involvement and responsibility.

Cameron said she valued the opportunity to contribute to a programme supporting vulnerable people and encouraged other learners to consider community service with Domino or similar organisations.

“She was with us over two days and, in that time, joined the team making peanut butter sandwiches for the early childhood development centres with whom we partner, and then got stuck into packing relief hampers for families and individuals in distres and smiled all the way through,” she added.

“I loved being with the Domino team, knowing that my contribution would be making a difference in other people’s lives,” said Makaylen.
