Durban North babies’ home twins find forever home

A Durban family’s home and hearts grew when they adopted twin boys from The Domino Foundation’s Babies’ Home.

A Durban family’s household grew from five to seven shortly before the 2025 festive season, after they officially welcomed twin boys from The Domino Foundation’s Babies’ Home into their “forever family”.

The twins had arrived at the Babies’ Home five months earlier. After hearing about the brothers, the family decided to meet them, followed by a series of mutual getting-acquainted sessions.

It was not long before the family took the formal steps to adopt the pair, adding to their existing children to make a family of four sons and one daughter.

Crisis Mom at The Domino Foundation’s Babies’ Home, Precious Thabethe, said the Department of Social Development’s matching and vetting processes are rigorous, with officials carefully assessing each placement to ensure a secure future for both the children and their adoptive families.

“Many criteria have to be met, as the well-being of the child up for adoption is of paramount importance,” said Thabethe, adding that the department’s personnel are meticulous in their assessments.

One of the twins’ older siblings has already embraced his new role as big brother. “I can’t wait for them to grow up a bit so that I can teach them soccer,” he said.

With her older children preparing to start the new school year, the twins’ new mother described the adoption as a special gift for the family.

“What wonderful gifts we have been given … the best Christmas presents to really brighten the whole year ahead for us all,” she said.

The pair are the second set of twins to leave The Domino Foundation’s Babies’ Home in recent months.

The first set of identical twins spent a year at the home under the care of Thabethe and her team before being adopted.
