Sai Centre Durban North to host blood drive

The Abode of Peace is encouraging Durban North residents to support the initiative, whether by donating blood or helping spread the word.

THE Abode of Peace, home to the Sri Sathya Sai Centre Durban North, will host a community blood drive in partnership with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) on March 14, as the centre continues its commitment to serving the community through acts of compassion and volunteerism.

According to Yajna Sewnarain, Seva Wing Convenor for the Sri Sathya Sai Centre Durban North, the decision to collaborate with SANBS stems from the organisation’s core belief that service to humanity is a spiritual duty.

“The Durban North Sai Centre is part of a spiritual organisation called the Sri Sathya Sai Global Council and we subscribe to the philosophy of service to man is service to God. We know that blood saves lives,” she said.

Reflecting on their spiritual heritage, the centre noted that last year marked the centenary of their Divine Master, Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

As part of the milestone, the organisation set a national target of 8 500 units of blood to be collected through its facilitated clinics.

“Our centre decided to be part of this target to launch our local clinic at our new spiritual home. We had a very successful clinic and we intend to continue to host the clinic at the Abode of Peace,” added Sewnarain.

Last year, the centre collected 109 pints of blood and hopes to match or surpass that number at this year’s drive.
Blood donation remains critical for the region, the convenor noted, stressing its life-saving impact.

“Donating this precious gift of life saves the lives of those in dire need of blood. It is our belief that the blood donated is likened to liquid love,” said Sewnarain.

“Community members can help by promoting our clinic by encouraging others to become donors. Contact our centre to assist in providing logistical support at the donor clinic,” she added.
