Suspect arrested after assault at Durban North shopping centre

The suspect, a man in his 40s, was found in possession of a knife and was arrested on Adelaide Tambo Drive.

ONE suspect was arrested on Tuesday afternoon (February 24) following an assault on a security officer at a shopping centre on Mackeurtan Avenue.

Once in custody, law enforcement found that the man in his 40s had prior convictions relating to house break-in and theft in the Durban North area.

“When our members arrived on scene we were informed that a male suspect had assaulted a security officer on site before leaving the immediate area,” explained Ensure Security’s Tactical Intervention Unit spokesperson Kyle van Reenen.

“A search of the surrounding precinct led us to successfully locating the individual nearby. During a search of the suspect, he was found to be in possession of a knife.”

The suspect was arrested on Adelaide Tambo Drive (Kensington Drive) and handed over to officers from the Durban North police station.

Van Reenen added there were no serious injuries to the security officer.
