Cyclists injured in alleged hit-and-run near uMhlanga

Emergency services responded to a serious incident on the M4 between uMhlanga and Umdloti on Saturday morning after three cyclists were struck by a vehicle that allegedly fled the scene.

THREE cyclists were injured in an alleged hit-and-run crash on the M4 between uMhlanga and Umdloti this morning (Saturday, May 9).

According to a KZN VIP Protection Services spokesperson, emergency medical services were alerted by passing motorists who witnessed the incident, prompting the immediate dispatch of ambulances and medical teams to the scene.

“Upon arrival of the first ambulance, additional medical resources were requested due to the severity of the incident. Multiple KZN VIP ambulances responded to assist,” said the spokesperson.

The cyclists sustained moderate injuries and received advanced medical treatment and stabilisation on scene before being transported to medical facilities for further care.

It is believed that a light motor vehicle collided with the cyclists before fleeing the scene. No fatalities were reported.

Traffic along the route was affected while emergency personnel worked to secure and clear the area.

All emergency services were in attendance.
