Officers nab ‘cool’ suspect on Chris Hani Road

The alleged perpetrator and the stolen aircon unit were found a short while after the item was stolen.

AN air conditioning unit, stolen from a property on Avoca Road, was recovered a short while later after Marshall Security armed response officers were alerted.

The incident occurred at about 14:35 on Avoca Road on Monday. The emergency dispatch centre was alerted of the crime through a WhatsApp crime alert group.

“Officers made contact with the client, who reported that the suspect had entered the property through the rear gate, stolen the air conditioning unit and fled the scene. A clear description of the suspect was circulated as per CCTV footage,” said Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.

About two hours later, officers spotted the man on Prince Umhlangane Road.

“The suspect attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended after a brief foot chase at the corner of Old North Coast Road and Prince Umhlangane Road. A search of the area was conducted, and the stripped aircon unit was found,” said Powell.

Greenwood Park SAPS arrived on scene and transported the man to the police station.
